Meet the Director

Celine Swan
For more than 25 years, Celine Swan has been at the heart of the Grand Island Public Library — and since 2020, she has led the library as Director.
Swan first joined the library in the late 1990s after working in local schools with technology, an experience that has shaped her leadership and her focus on innovation. Over the years she has served in many roles, including Kids and Teens Librarian and Interim Director, before being appointed to the top role by Mayor Roger Steele and the City Council.
Under her leadership, the library has strengthened its role as a true community center. Swan has championed early childhood literacy and family programs while expanding partnerships through the Hall County Community Collaborative, public schools, and Head Start. Swan has also guided the library’s growth in technology and innovation, from expanding online services to advancing the use of the makerspace as a resource for creativity, learning, and entrepreneurship.
Today, she continues to build on the library’s tradition of service while looking ahead to the future — ensuring the Grand Island Public Library remains a place where everyone feels welcome to learn, connect and thrive.
